Crash of the day

From Nicolaï newsletter : Our hellion Tim Nemelka, known as dirt, street, and party animal, is starting to like the idea that mountain biking isn’t only fun in the city, but also in the mountains. Tim does not yet own a Big Bike, but he thinks that an Ufo DS with a deflection of 120mm should definitely be capable of a gap jump. “Well, the canyon-gap emerged from the spontaneous idea that I really wanted to try jumping over a canyon”, Tim explains. So he took his friends to the mountains of Stuttgart, Germany to look for a good canyon to jump over. That was not easy at all, says Tim: “After searching for approximately a thousand years the Häcker finally found THE perfect canyon. I mean seriously – try to find a suited canyon to jump over in Stuttgart – they are either 40metres wide, or slope equals reverse slope!” After Tim and his friends had cleared collapsed trees out of the way for a week, built a gigantic jump, and shaped the landing, it was finally time for Tim to do a t est run. “The drive is extremely steep and rough and before you jump you get compressed pretty badly”, says Tim. “But you need the speed to make it to the other side.” Not only the jump was hard – the landing was, too. So hard that Tim involuntarily got off the ground a second time and kept flying – this time without the bike. Unfortunately, the second landing was even harde than the first one. However, Tim is confident that he can table the jump, if he just has some more practice. It just needs to be modified a little.
